چکیده

In the course of the study of glycolysis in the human red blood cell which is reported in a companion paper (1) new information was collected on the application of column chromatography with anion exchange resins to the isolation of glycolytic intermediates and related compounds. The findings are the subject of this communication. Included in this report are modifications of some analytical methods for the determination of carbohydrate derivatives which proved helpful in the identification of the compounds found in column eluates. Columns of activated carbon were used to separate inorganic phosphate from the carbohydrate monophosphates in red cell extracts (I) and a brief discussion is presented on problems connected with carbon chromatography.

Immunoglobulin A Preparation from Human Pooled Plasma Using Plasma Fractionation and Ion Exchange Chromatography

Background: In this study we have prepared the IgA solution from normal human plasma using plasma fractionation and ion exchange chromatography. Materials and Methods: Using fractionation of plasma with cold ethanol (starting with 8% ethanol), fraction III was prepared as a suitable source for IgA preparation. Then it was treated with caprylic acid for separation of impurities. For enrichm...

Isolation and purification of albumin from human plasma by direct and combined approach of ion-exchange chromatography and comparison of the final products quality obtained by both methods

Background: Due to multiple roles of albumin in the body, injection of its medicinal product as one of the therapeutic or management strategies under conditions such as severe bleeding, burns, liver failure, and neonatal hemolytic diseases is on the physicians' agenda. Considering that albumin is the most abundant plasma protein, designing an appropriate method to purify it is highly important....

Human red cell glycolytic intermediates.

The human red blood cell is readily available in a wide range of quantities and can be processed to a highly purified single cell suspension. It normally converts glucose almost quantitatively to lactic acid, and this conversion appears to be a predominant fraction of the total metabolic activity (1). Because of these characteristics the human red cell provides a convenient material for the stu...

Chromatography of amino acids on sulfonated polystyrene resins.

The quantitative separation of amino acids by chromatography on columns of starch has sheen described in previous publications (l-3). In extending these investigations, a systematic study has been made of the separations of amino acids by elution analysis on columns of synthetic ion exchange resins. With a sulfonated polystyrene resin, Dowex-50, it has been possible to develop a chromatographic...
